“The only limits you have are the limits you believe.” – Wayne Dyer
When I speak to others about dreams, they have for their life many of them have the wrong mindset to pursue those dreams. These limiting beliefs stop them before they start. There are always challenges and when you hit the first one that doesn’t mean it’s a sign to stop.
As you focus on that dream and plan the steps to turn it into a goal with a deadline you may encounter challenges to overcome before you begin. That’s normal for chasing goals.
If you want to lose weight, you need a plan what you will do to make that happen. Wishing does not make it happen. For a weight loss journey you need to decide what you will cut out, how you will deal with holidays and birthdays, if you will incorporate exercise and if so what type, and for how long. You could allow all of those questions to prevent you from moving forward with your weight loss goals.
It could become as easy as deciding to eat less at each meal to start. The next step you might drop soda or eating less bread. Sometimes we make the process harder than it needs to be. It’s one decision at that moment. When it’s time to eat you decide something healthier or same old habits that got you where you are now.
People let things overwhelm them because they think they have to have every little detail planned out before they begin. Some diets require you to have a certain eating plan and you need to shop for all those items and prep them so you don’t mess up on this diet you are putting yourself on. Another problem could be the exercise side where you feel you need a trainer, a gym membership, certain workout clothes and so many hours a day to exercise.
This could become as easy as going for a walk around your neighborhood or at a park close by. The act of starting will help you with these areas you are struggling with or feel you need to do before you can begin.
“The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt
With goals, it’s more your mindset of experiences that affect you. You tried this before and you failed so you think you will fail again. I believe it is more how you see it over you failing. You may have started a weight loss plan and even though you couldn’t stick with the strict eating plan you cut out things that can cause weight gain and you lost several pounds. Rather than focus on what you accomplished, you focused on what you didn’t and so you quit. The only failure that took place in this situation is you quitting.
To create a business, you need a product. Have you created that product? How can you open a business if you have nothing to sell? This is true for any goal. If you want to be a writer, you can’t sell a book without writing it first. If you want a restaurant, you need a menu. Take the steps to start. Write 500 words a day to end up with a book. Make dishes you would want on a menu and have others sample them and give feedback.
The other problem I see with people’s goals are commitment levels. If you don’t commit to doing something towards the goal you are limiting it and the ability for it to happen. This has to have action taking place to reach a goal. Go for that walk to lose weight. Sitting down each day and writing 500 words is how you end up with a book. Creating a product or products each day opens a business. Having a full menu of food choices that people love will make a successful restaurant.
The more you think of reasons something can’t happen the more you are limiting your ability to make things happen.
How bad to you want your dream to become a reality? What are you willing to do to make it happen? Will you put in the action it takes even when challenging times come your way? Are you someone that can overcome and press on?
Change your mindset from limiting thoughts and beliefs to powerful ones. You might struggle through certain things until you get it figured out, but don’t set yourself up for failure because of your limiting beliefs in what you are doing. Your thoughts and your beliefs will dictate if you will be an overcomer or a quitter.
Some ways to switch your mindset are:
1. Read positive affirmations of what you want in your life.
2. Have a heart of gratitude.
3. Ask yourself what you can learn from this situation.
4. Get an accountability partner.
5. Take action.
6. Celebrate the little wins.
7. Track your progress.
8. Read your goals daily.
Start your day with a heart of gratitude and be thankful for what is in your life each day. This will help your mindset shift to the positive of things. Set goals with deadlines and read over them daily as a reminder what you are trying to accomplish. Write and read affirmation statements about what you want in your life so you focus on the positive impact of what these goals can help you accomplish. Find someone to be an accountability partner. This is someone that will remind you of your deadlines, goals, where you need to focus and help you bounce things off of when those struggling times come. When they come, ask yourself what can you learn from the situation instead of feeling overwhelmed or wanting to quit. Develop a way to track your progress. If you are losing weight, you want to know you are losing 2 pounds a week towards that goal. If it’s a business, it could be financial goals or product goals. Take action even if they are baby steps at the beginning as you move towards your goals. Don’t forget to celebrate those little wins. You lose 20 pounds or hit a half way mark on your financial goals.
There is a variety of methods that can help you change your limiting beliefs and get you moving on your dreams so they become a reality. Decide what methods work for you to keep you with the right mindset to achieve them.
